I couldn’t control the tragic events that have happened in my life.
My father died in a car explosion.
My stepfather was murdered.
When I was 7, I got robbed with a gun in my head while working to help my widowed mother.
In 2002, I worked as a door-to-door cable salesman in Washington D.C. People were afraid and angry because the Beltway Snipers were shooting people. Everyone was on edge because no one know when the next victim or next shot would take place.
It would have been easy to give in to that kind of environment, but I’ve always liked thinking and dreaming big.
Instead of giving in to the negativity and violence around me, I learned and adopted a new mindset.
When you ask your mind the right questions, you get good answers.
What can I strategically and congruently FOCUS on at all times?
What MEANING will I assign to the things and events that happened and will happen in my life?
What can I do about it, so I can break through and be where I want be in LIFE?
Thank God when I was 7 I realized the things that make me comfortable could ruin me. But what makes me uncomfortable could improve my life.
We are not designed to do things that are uncomfortable, scary, or difficult. Our minds do everything they can to prevent us from hurting ourselves. This is usually helpful, but to reach your dreams you need to take risks, believe in yourself, and not worry about failing (hurting yourself).
In order to change; to build your dream business; to become the best leader; best spouse; best parent; get in the best shape and health of your life…
We have to face, embrace, and honor all the struggles we encounter and say:
NO MORE. I AM GOING TO BURN THE BOAT AND TAKE OVER THE ISLAND.
What you are and what you become depends on lots of factors. How you use your time, what you focus on, what you choose to think about and the meaning you assign to each thought, and the decisions you make.
Instead of staying comfortable, take ownership of your mission, your future, and your life. Adopt a new mindset dedicated to becoming the best version of you. Raise your vibrations and ambitions to become your best self.
It’s not easy. I would never lie to you and say it’s easy. It is difficult but necessary. If you don’t like where you, you’ve got to change. That change comes from winning a battle with your own mind. The only limits that exist are the ones you create.
Here’s the secret to success though: environmental exposure. Surround yourself with other people who are on a journey to become their best selves and cut out negative people from your life.
Just promise me when you become a master you teach someone in need. Contribution is a priceless, addictive feeling.
